Carbon shank or fiberglass shank construction – perfectly tailored to your needs
Learn more about your construction options at SPURart – it's all in the details. Whether carbon or fiberglass reinforcement, every core contains wood, which we precisely CNC mill into its ideal shape. Each model receives a specific thickness profile that provides your individual flex, offering you the perfect riding experience.
the core
The heart of every SPURart ski and snowboard is the laminated ash core, a quality otherwise only found in top-of-the-line racing skis.
Our partner Rohol, an Austrian manufacturer of high-tech ski cores, processes the ash log into 2.5 mm thick and 2-meter-long veneers. The wood is peeled along the stable annual rings to extract the high-performance fibers. These veneers are then glued together to form a raw core, where the fibers are perfectly aligned – for an ideal balance of elasticity, damping, and performance.
In the SPURart workshop, each core is specifically tailored to the shape and the skier, because the flex profile – the so-called contour curve – is crucial. Tenths of a millimeter make all the difference. The contour curve is, so to speak, the philosophy behind every ski and snowboard – it embodies the soul of the SPURart designers and gives each model its distinctive character.
Harness
In combination with our ash cores, the webbing gives SPURart skis and snowboards their precise tuning and exceptionally high-quality handling.
We traditionally manufacture our skis and snowboards using a sandwich construction method: The core is reinforced with woven fibers in the so-called top and bottom layers. This allows us to precisely control the flex in both the longitudinal and torsional directions. The amount of fibers and the core profile determine the desired stiffness. We use both glass and carbon fibers for different applications.
Fiberglass
For all ski types that require optimal damping.
Fiberglass is a traditional material in ski construction, known for its excellent damping properties, which effectively absorb vibrations and shocks. This allows for precise control at any speed, especially in icy or uneven snow conditions. Fiberglass is ideally suited for all ski types that require optimal damping.
Carbon fiber
Low weight for long ascents.
Carbon fibers are characterized by their high stiffness combined with low weight, making them a preferred material for high-performance lightweight constructions. They weigh about half as much as a comparable amount of fiberglass, which makes the skis lighter overall. Carbon skis allow for more direct power transmission, resulting in particularly agile and dynamic performance. These skis demonstrate their strengths especially on soft snow such as powder or firn. Furthermore, carbon fibers retain their mechanical properties over a long period, significantly increasing the skis' durability.
